HISTORY
Laurino is in the heart of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, on a hill surrounded by Cavallo mountain. Its name probably derives from the presence of laurus (laurinus in latin). However it might be related to the presence of Basiliani Monks called laure. Founded by the Pentri Sanniti after the Roman domination it went through a series of barbarian attacks and consequently influences.

CULTURAL HERITAGE
There are quite a few traces of the historical background worth in Laurino from the Ducal Medieval Castle ruins to Ducal Palace recently restored. Among the many churches worth visiting for their great historical importance there are: Santa Maria Maggiore, Ognissanti, San Bagio, Santissima Annunziata. The Church of Santa Maria Maggiore dated back to 1776 is of great importance as it contains precious works of art such as Cristoforo Faffeo polyptych and a precious wedding box representing the 15th century history of Paride. The baroque high altar contains Saint Diodoro,s shrine. The Choir by Gerolamo Consulmagno in carved wood is dated back to the 16th century. An outstanding monument is San Antonio of Padua Convent situated at the foot of the hill. Built in the 16th century on San Antonio Abate Hospital was originally a charitable building. There are frescoes all over the porticos representing also the emblems of the great families who contributed to its construction. In the middle of the Cloister there is a Well and next to the Convent San Antonio of Padua Church stands. The eye is soon caught by the precious wooden door entrance all carved in bassorilievos by Gerolamo Consulmagno. The Church ceiling is in wood and all painted as it is the high altar. Moreover right in the middle of the mountain in the area called Pruno there is a little Grotto were pilgrims visit the statue of San Elena of Laurino hermit who spent several years praying in this narrow and dark but impressive Grotto. In this area you can also visit the so called “Fraulusi” Grotto where pre-historical remains have been found and which was used as a burial place.

Liberi Suoni Cultural Association
was born from the meeting between a group of friends, musicians and just music lovers, with the aim of having an active role in the production of music events, following their precise idea of music that is well represented by the name they choose. The name, despite what it might appear, doesn’t relate to an anarchic and confused programme but to an idea of total freedom of music genres, experiences, events, in a of cross-contamination play where the only common denominator is represented by creativity in any form.
